The Bad Ass Knitters Webring
A webring for those bad-asses obsessed with knitting. (Crocheters and spinners welcome!! I have buttons for everyone!) You know who you are. This ring won’t turn its back on you for foul language, a couple of post-less weeks (we all have lives!), or musings about your other bad ass obsessions outside of fiber arts. So bring your attitude problem, and join the others that are too badass for your average knitting, crocheting, weaving, and spinning webrings!
Buttons!
Right-click and “save as” then upload to your own server (such as flickr, photobucket, or imageshack). PLEASE DO NOT DIRECT LINK!!
NEW BUTTON!! Thanks to this lovely right here. They’re animated! Large and small size.

Rules for this webring 1. You must not be afraid to exercise your middle finger whenever you get the desire.
2. You must have a blog, obviously. In this blog you should post often about some form of fiber arts. Your blog does not have to be knitting 24/7, but it should be the main subject.
3. You must love knitting, crocheting, spinning, weaving, and other fiber arts.
4. You must have the ring code visible on your site. Please upload the buttons to YOUR OWN SERVER. If you direct link to my button you will murder my bandwith and I will be forced to exercise my middle finger on you.
5. You must post at least once a month. If I find your blog without a post in a while, I will email you to see if you’ve abandoned it completely, if I get no reply, I will take you off to spare other surfers from the annoyance of hitting a dead blog. However, you will not be deleted for taking a vacation, shit happens.
FAQ
Q: I signed up a while ago, why haven’t I been approved?
A: There are a few reasons why this might happen.
1.-I have been naughty and haven’t checked the queue in a week or so. (I rarely go longer than a week)
2.-You have some kind of error. When I go through a “queue check” ringsurf with run through all the sites and if it finds the site code on your page and everything’s fine it will say “status: OK” and you get moved right to members.
If it finds an error it says…usually…”No Code” or “Site does not respond”. I try to email everyone individually with their error and how to fix it as soon as possible, but it takes a great deal of time and might get put off. SO if you haven’t heard from me yet, you will.
To fool-proof your site from getting errors you can do two easy things which are the two most common problems.
- The first is MAKE SURE YOUR SITE ID IS CORRECT! I don’t know how it happens but almost everyone with a “no code” error ends up with the wrong ID number. To find your ID number, check the email that automatically sends when you sign up OR log in to your ringsurf account. If you need another email, just let me know and I’ll get it right out to you. Here is where the SITE ID is placed (see bold area)
< a xhref=”http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=badassknitters;id=***SITE ID***;action=prev”>Previous |
< a xhref=”http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=badassknitters;id=***SITE ID***;action=next”>Next |
You simply have to be sure it says, for example, my site ID is “1″, so mine would say
- The second common issue is simply that you entered the URL wrong when you signed up. Just log in and make sure it’s right. IF YOU HAVE THE RING CODE ON A ‘LINKS’ PAGE or any page that isn’t your main page, you must enter the URL of the LINKS page, NOT your main page. This way visitor’s surfing the ring know where the code is, and can just hit “home” or “blog” or whatever to read your blog, then find their way back to the navigation code to visit the next blog. There is nothing more annoying that surfing a webring and hitting a dead end because you can’t go to the next site because you can’t find the code! THATS why you have to have a code in the first place, and trust me, LOTS of people surf webrings and I do get emails about dead ends.
Q: I want to shorten the ring code, what do I have to have on the code?
A: Since I initially made the ring I have shortened the code to the minimum that I ask you to have. Next, Previous, Join, and List. Please have all four of these, it helps support the other blogs and the ring itself. BUT if you’d like the code a little smaller, you can simple replace:
- The “Previous” with “< “
- The “Next” with “>”
- The “Join” with a “J”
- and the list with a “L”
- You can also shorten the “Powered by Ringsurf and Attitude” to whatever.
If you’ve never done this before, here’s where you’d change it in the code:
- < a xhref=”http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=badassknitters;id=***SITE ID***;action=next”>Next |
That “l” line after the NEXT is a separator and can be deleted if you like as well.
Q: Your buttons suck, can I make my own?
A: Absolutely! And if you’d like to share it, just send it to me and I’ll add it to the available buttons!
Q: How to I get the button onto my code and what does “hotlinking” and “direct linking” mean?
A: Hot/Direct linking means you’ve right-clicked on the buttons on this website (or someone else’s) and hit “copy image location” and entered that URL into your site code. You should never do this because it steals bandwith (unless a site permits you to do so, which some do) from that site and your buttons may end up with a big nasty red X or something saying “BANDWITH EXCEEDED” where the button should be. To get your button up properly you must:
- Upload it to your own photoserver. There are plenty of free ones, my favorite is Photobucket because they give you the image codes right under the photo and it’s really easy to navigate. There is also Flickr, and Imageshack.
- Find the place in the code where it says “IMAGE URL HERE” and replace that phrase with the URL to your uploaded image. It would look something like this: img xsrc=”http://yourimageservice.com/badassknittersbutton.jpg” mce_src=”http://yourimageservice.com/badassknittersbutton.jpg”
- (That whole line would be inside brackets like <> but I had to remove them so Wordpress wouldn’t turn it into a link)
Q: How do I add code to my blog on…(click the link to be whisked off to a helpful tutorial page!)
Q: My blog isn’t listed on the sidebar of this website, what the hell?
A: That list is my personal blogroll, as in the blogs I read daily. It is not affiliated with this webring. I try to keep the list moderately sized so that I can keep up with it, if I added all of you to it, it would be HUGE!
